Basics of Dog Training


A dog is a good as its master. Dog behavior training is important so that your neighbors and your family feel safe in the presence of the pet.

Dog training is not a thing that can be done easily. Believing that you can just start training your dog any one fine day and he will fall inline. Training a dog is a challenge that needs enough patience, persuasion, consistency, and loads of appreciation. Getting a pet is not enough for you and for your pet and one of the biggest hurdles that a dog owner faces. To teach good behavior and make you pet house trained is very important part if you are planning to include a dog in your family. You can get your new puppy, dog, or older dog to be trained by a professional dog trainer or on your own. There are many good books, information on internet, and plenty of tools to help you on your way to teaching your dog obedience. Do some research or if possible join a dog training program, whatever suits you and you will surprised how easy it is to handle a well trained dog in fact it also can be beneficial.


About the Three Basic Commands - There are three simple and basic commands for a basic dog training and these are 'sit', 'stay' and 'come'. Be ready with some dog treats that you will need to reinforce doing as commanded ability in your pet. Pets usually respond to their training much enthusiastically when they are rewarded with treats. You should start your 'sit' training in a quiet area so that your dog does not get distracted and listens to you attentively. Holding the treat over his head, you command him to sit. Do this repeatedly. It is important to remember that consistency is the key for all types of dog training. While looking up your dog may sit down to reach the treat. Sometimes the dog may not react, and at such times, you should gently push down his bottom. Be sure that you reward him with the treat and praise him by saying 'Good Boy' every time he sits. This training works because the when the dog hears 'sit', he associates it with sitting and receiving rewards.

The next basic dog training is to teach dog to 'stay'. This is generally a tricky command to teach. It will work if you combine this command 'come' command. Take your dog to an area with no directions and start backing away even as you constantly tell him to 'stay'. Maintain eye contact with your dog and if he tries to get up tell him 'no'. Start the process again. You will need a lot of patience. After he learns to 'stay', turn your back and start walking away. Seeing you walk away, he might try getting up. Say 'no' and begin the process again by telling your dog to stay as you walk away from him. Once your dog masters this part, you can ask him to 'come' using a happy voice and patting your knees as you say 'come'.
